Cajuu

We’re family owned and work with Tanzanian farmers to source the best cashews.

Our Story

The journey into cashews started when our grandparents provided locally produced cashew nuts to customers at our tailoring shop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Due to their size, texture and flavour people came to the shop for the cashew nuts and this operation grew over 40 years.

The cashews are sourced from the Makonde plateau in southern Tanzania, a region which due to its climate, soil fertility and environmental conditions makes for amazing quality produce - including cashews! We have forged relationships with hundreds of farmers across the Makonde plateau and work together to get the best product harvest after harvest. During harvest only cashews that fall naturally from the tree are selected, indicating perfect ripeness.

Our family run an ethical operation – we supply equipment and gloves to our cashew farming partners so they never have to come in contact with caustic CNSL (Cashew Nut Shell Liquid) within the cashew shell, and offer a fair, transparent price for the nuts.

Since our cashew nuts are processed in Tanzania at farm level, rather than exported, we have a much lower carbon footprint than other suppliers.

Cajuu was officially founded by me, Habil, in 2018. We knew that we had to bring this amazing product as well as wonderfully rich back story and ethical operation to the UK consumer. We spent many months working on and testing ingredients and cashew products and developed the range available. We knew that there had to be a few absolute prerequisites; our cashews need to be the main ingredient with no other nut, must be vegan and natural throughout, and the flavours must have an African direction to harp back to our roots.

All of our methods are ethical, and our carbon footprint is much lower than other suppliers. We hand craft a range of natural, flavourful, vegan premium cashew snack products in the UK, and our packaging is made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials.
