Rare Tea Company is a small independent company based in London. We source and supply the world's best tea - direct from farmers and their tea gardens.

Our Story

The company was founded in 2004, by Henrietta Lovell (known as the Tea Lady), to source and supply the world's best tea - direct from farmers and their tea gardens.

We focus on quality and all our tea is crafted by skilled men and women on independent farms. Henrietta travels the world working with small, independent tea gardens from the Shire Highlands of Malawi to the foothills of the Himalayas. By sourcing direct from the farms, she is able to secure unique harvests and ensure that they are crafted using sustainable practices to benefit both the land and the people who live in it.

From humble beginnings with just a handful of devoted customers, we now collaborate with many of the world finest chefs and restaurants, including Noma in Copenhagen, Momofuku in New York, and Claridge's in the UK.

With the support of our customers - a mixture of chefs and sommeliers, builders, tattoo artists, taxi drivers and duchesses - our small team has been able to grow Rare Tea Company into a business of some renown.

Rare Charity was founded in 2016 to create long-term and sustainable social change by re-investing a percentage of revenue into the young people connected to tea-growing communities. Every tin of tea sold helps provide educational opportunities through school and university scholarships.
