Isle of Skye Sea Salt Company

Isle of Skye Sea Salt Company

We are a small artisan business making multi-award winning gourmet sea salt crystals in the Isle of Skye. Outstanding provenance and a natural solar evaporation process, unique in the UK, produces a sea salt of rare depth of flavour that enhances all foods and cuisines.

Our Story

We started our business in 2013 and are now the longest established commercial sea salt producer in Scotland. Our ambition was to produce a premium quality sea salt with minimum impact on the environment.

With our pure 100% Scottish sea salt, beautifully packaged in our card tubes, we have achieved this ambition and this has been endorsed by our winning a range of awards for the quality of our sea salt and our sustainable approach to production. These include the 2015 Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Award; Great Taste Award 2014 and 2018; the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Environment Award 2014; Scotland Speciality Food Show Gold Award in 2018 and, in 2021, the Scottish Retail Food and Drink Award.

In 2016 we have became one of the few Scottish food producers to receive the accolade of being accepted into the Slow Food International 'Ark of Taste'. Our salt is a true artisan product with a fantastic provenance, using the crystal clear waters of Loch Snizort on the North-West coast of Skye.

We make our salt using just the sun and wind, utilising a method that is in harmony with the seasons and is unique in the UK. The combination of the pure loch waters and the slow evaporation process produces crystals with a crumbly texture and a strong flavour, but with no bitter aftertaste. Because of our commitment to a natural production process (we only produce our salt from April to October) we are a relatively small producer and so our product will not be seen in large supermarket chains. Our beautiful, luxury packaging, at home in any kitchen can be both re-used and recycled, reinforcing our commitment to minimising our environmental impacts.
